Meningitis B Vaccine

We are aware of concerns about a potential Meningitis B outbreak; however, we have not received updated guidance from NHS England.

The MenB vaccine is only routinely available to infants as part of the NHS schedule and is not offered to children over 1 year old.

Exception:
If you have received a letter from NHS England advising vaccination:

  • You may be eligible
  • You must bring the letter to your appointment
  • The nurse must verify this before the vaccine can be given

We are unable to provide the vaccine outside of this guidance.

Requesting a Private Letter from Your GP

Private Medical Letters

From time to time, patients request private letters or “To Whom It May Concern” letters. Please note that these services are not covered under NHS provisions and therefore incur a standard fee of £20, payable in advance.

More detailed or complex letters may require additional time and may be subject to a higher fee. You will be informed in advance if this applies.

Why Is There a Charge?

The preparation of private letters falls outside NHS-funded services. As such, doctors complete this work in addition to their NHS responsibilities.

Producing a letter requires:

  • Reviewing your medical records to ensure accuracy
  • Drafting and preparing letter
  • Administrative processing, typing, and printing by our medical secretarial team

For these reasons, a fee is payable.

Private letters are prepared alongside routine NHS duties and therefore cannot be prioritised over clinical work.

Please allow a minimum of 7 working days for completion.

If your request is urgent, we will make reasonable efforts to meet your deadline; however, this cannot be guaranteed. Should we be unable to complete the letter before your required date, and it has not yet been written, your fee will be refunded.
